Commercial Gas Hoses: Choosing the Right Size and Length
A commercial gas hose has two sizes to compare: its connection size and its length. Getting one right does not guarantee that the hose suits your appliance.
Start with the appliance specification and your installer’s requirements. Confirm gas type, fittings and the required hose specification before choosing a length.
In this guide: Compare sizes · What to check · Replacing a hose · Installation
Connection size and length are different
In a description such as 1/2″ × 150cm, the inch size identifies the stated connection size and 150cm is the hose length. The inch size is nominal; do not select a fitting by measuring its outside diameter with a ruler.
| Connection | Length | Product |
|---|---|---|
| 1/2″ BSP | 100cm / 1m | View hose |
| 1/2″ BSP | 150cm / 1.5m | View hose |
| 3/4″ BSP | 100cm / 1m | View hose |
| 3/4″ BSP | 150cm / 1.5m | View hose |
These four listings specify BSP connections, natural gas/LPG suitability, a quick-release coupling and a restraining device. Your engineer must still confirm suitability for the exact appliance and installation. Follow the current product specification if its included components change.

Five checks before choosing a hose
- Appliance and gas type. Confirm the exact model and whether it is configured for natural gas or LPG. A hose does not convert an appliance from one gas type to another.
- Connections at both ends. Compare the stated thread and coupling details. “Quick release” does not mean universal compatibility.
- Required hose specification. Your engineer should check the appliance’s gas demand and installation requirements. Burner count and connection size alone are not enough.
- Length and position. Have your installer confirm the length for the layout and any permitted movement for cleaning. A longer hose is not automatically the better choice.
- Included components. Check the coupling, restraining device and any other parts your installer requires.
Replacing an existing hose?
Use the old hose’s markings and the appliance model as reference information, then confirm the replacement specification. Do not rely on colour, photographs or an approximate measurement of the fitting.
Clear photographs of the appliance data plate and visible connection can help identify the product. There is no need to disconnect anything to ask for advice.
Will one hose fit every fryer or kebab machine?
No. Appliances can differ in gas type, connection and required gas supply. Match the hose to the exact machine and installation, rather than assuming all three-burner or four-burner machines use the same hose.
Who should confirm the installation?
Use a Gas Safe registered engineer qualified for the relevant commercial catering equipment and gas type to confirm and carry out the installation.
